Achieving the Goals of the U.S. National HIV/AIDS Strategy

The Obama Administration has established a National HIV/AIDS Strategy that seeks to reduce new HIV infections, increase access to care and treatment, and reduce HIV-related health disparities in the US. National HIV advocacy leaders will offer their perspectives on how actions taken by the Administration and the US Congress are impacting implementation of the Strategy. Discussion will focus on the availability of resources to carry out prevention, care and treatment, and research programs, and policy positions on such issues as health care reform and the ability to carry out scientific-based prevention programs. The panel will explore whether the needs of specific populations most impacted by HIV are addressed. The role of the private sector and philanthropy in achieving the goals of the Strategy will be discussed. Panelists will identify potential obstacles that can derail implementation of the Strategy and offer suggestions on how the goals can be achieved.
