Global Health Progress

In a message released in honor of World AIDS Day, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon urged the world to uphold the human rights of all people living with or at risk of being infected by HIV. In the same message, the Secretary General advocated that immediate action be taken to meet the Millennium Development Goals related to global HIV prevention.

World AIDS Day will be observed on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. The theme of the day, “Universal Access and Human Rights,” will focus on improving awareness of the discriminatory laws, policies and practices that may restrict HIV-positive patients’ access to necessary HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.
