Objectives
Increase access to mental health care—medicines and behavioral health services—for uninsured and underserved patients suffering from depression +/- anxiety.
Enable selected clinics to address the mental health needs of their local patient populations through appropriate linguistic and cultural resources and services
More than 5.5 million adults with a mental health illness in the US are uninsured. In 2022, in partnership with Direct Relief and the National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics, Teva launched a program to advance access to mental health care for uninsured and underserved patients suffering from depression and anxiety in California, Florida and New Jersey.
Teva made available a portfolio generic medicines and an initial $2 million in grant funding over two years for innovative behavioral health programs that help advance health equity at selected free and charitable clinics, which understand the needs of their local patient populations
In 2023, Teva expanded access to medicines through the program to seven additional states with high mental health needs, including Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.
Results and milestones
In 2022, Teva announced the first round of eleven grant recipients and donated 3,177,960 doses of medicine.
In 2023, Teva donated 17,700,000 doses of medicines, reaching more than 21,000 patients.
During the first year of grant funding, grantees reached more than 28,000 beneficiaries, including nearly 7,000 directly and 21,000 indirectly. Program focus areas included reduction of stigma, behavioral health screening and treatment, training, bi-lingual and multi-cultural events, resources and services.
