Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation: Oncoguia’s Lay Patient Navigation Program

This project is providing quality information to high risk populations and patients about prevention, early detection, and linkage to needed care. This projects aims to ensure patients receive their diagnosis and begin timely treatment for lung cancer.

Instituto Oncoguia will develop and validate a patient navigation program in São Paulo in partnership with local basic health units to provide quality information to high risk populations and patients about prevention, early detection, and linkage to needed care. This projects aims to ensure patients receive their diagnosis and begin treatment without unnecessary delays or loss-to-follow-up, with a particular focus on those living with lung cancer.

Results and milestones
1. Created an outline curriculum, including competencies and objectives for a 2 week, 50 hour training (approx. 22 classes); in the process of inviting speakers and developing class presentations
2. Conducting needs assessment activities in partnership with the established partners, such a facility and community resources inventory, patient referral mapping, and patient flow mapping
