A partnership with the Dubai Health Authority and AXA insurance was created with the common objective of developing a sustainable solution that provides sufficient funding to give access to innovative cancer treatment to the most vulnerable in society.
Roche supported the creation of a common fund (BASMAH) within insurance companies, to pay for cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment that goes beyond the annual insurance limit.
We achieved this by increasing insurance premiums by $5 per person, per year and to be paid by the employer. This fund will cover screening, advanced diagnostics and full treatment of breast, colorectal & cervical cancers. It will be extended to other disease areas in phase II.
Results and milestones
As a result, the eligible segment of the population living in Dubai (4.6 million people), regardless of their health insurance policy or income, have access to cancer screening, diagnosis and innovative treatments should they be diagnosed with cancer.
