Diabetes mellitus (DM) and hypertension are major health issues in West Africa, with significant morbidity and mortality rates. In Benin, 25.9% of the population has high blood pressure, and 8.4% have elevated blood glucose levels. The healthcare system in Benin is challenged by a shortage of medical professionals, inadequate infrastructure, outdated equipment, and limited access to care, especially in rural areas, affecting nearly half the population.
A partnership between the Ministry of Health (MOH), Alliance MNT, and SANOFI’s GHU supports the National Strategic Plan against NCDs. Their goals include reducing NCD-related mortality and morbidity, expanding healthcare coverage, improving public awareness, and ensuring the availability of affordable, quality medicines, particularly insulin, while sharing best practices and monitoring pricing structures.
